Introduction to Number System

The computer can understand binary number and when we type some letter or words the computer translates them in number. A computer can understand positional number system where there are only a few symbols called digits and these symbols represent different values depending on the position they occupy in the number.

Each digit in a number can be represented by using

  • Digit
  • Position of digit in number
  • Base of number system where base is defined as total number of digits

Here are some number systems are as follows:

  • Decimal number system
  • Binary number system
  • Octal number system
  • Hexadecimal number system

Decimal number system

This number system is used in day to day life and consists of ten digits from 0 to 9 and use base 10. These digits are used to represent any numeric value it is mostly used in number system. (more…)
