COCOMO Model in Software Engineering

Introduction to COCOMO Model

COCOMO stands for COnstructive COst Model. It is an algorithm developed by B.W.Boehm in 1981 for estimating effort, cost, and schedule for software projects. It is used by thousands of software project managers. Instead of other cost estimation models it is an open model. According to Boehm, software cost estimation should be categorized into three stages such as:

  • Basic COCOMO,
  • Intermediate COCOMO
  • Complete COCOMO

Basic COCOMO Model

It is also known as basic model. It is basically used in small to medium sized software projects. It is used to compute software development effort and cost as a function of program size which is expressed in estimated thousands of source lines of code. The term Source lines of code should be defined such as:

  • The source (more…)
